Contribute to the DfT's data strategy

We're pleased to announce we've started a new project withthe Department for Transport. Running through June and July well be working incollaboration with PA Consulting to run a 'Discovery' which seeks to scope a DfT transport data strategy.

It's a project initiated by the DfT's new 'Developing Data Unit' and seeks to bring together the range of data initiatives that exist across the DfT. In their own words: "there's a wide range of data projects underway in the department and wider transport sector, and strategic commitments where data plays a key role. There is a need to provide joined up thinking to these projects and commitments and ensure we have the required data infrastructure to support them."

Here at Open Transport North, we've been involved directly in a number of those projects, notably:

Bus Open Data DataBus Discovery
the Bus Services Act 2017 consultation
the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) Discovery
and the Cycling & Walking Discovery

One key element of a Discovery project is the extensive 'user research.' During the project, we'll be providing a number of opportunities for you to get involved and contribute. We have confirmed the dates for two open engagement events - 11 July in London, and 17 July in Leeds. We want as many participants to take part as possible, in particular those who represent Combined Authorities, Transport Operators, Transport Agencies, Industry bodies and representatives, consumer / passenger groups, Technology suppliers, Data aggregators and those interested in, or working with data in the transport industry.

You can find more information about the DfT's project brief.

And we will be sharing much more throughout the project as it project progresses.
